Stream the fantastic new Morgan Delt album today

morgandeltcover

The wait til January 28th has been long for those anticipating Morgan Delt‘s self titled full length album, and we are fortunate to finally get to hear it today streaming over at Hype Machine! Delt became an underground hero when his tape Psychic Death Hole made the rounds of Los Angeles and beyond. Using tape manipulation skills, he creates such a warped sound that sounds like Sgt. Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band played underwater. So unique and really makes him stand apart from the plethora of psychedelic acts out there now. Listen today, I’ve had “Obstacle Eyes” on repeat for a month:

J Mascis Covers Mazzy Star, Designs Shoe

20130715-131144.jpg

In the latest of their rockstar collaborations, KEEP Shoes had amp rock genius J Mascis of Dinosaur Jr. design a shoe with the detail of his guitar strap down the back. The shoes came with a single that has a cover of Mazzy Star‘s “Fade Into You”. It keeps the same melancholy mood, but J brings more dusty, country wisdom and pain to the song, similar to when Johnny Cash covered Nine Inch Nails’ “Hurt” (except not near as heartbreakingly painful to listen to). Check out the cover over at Pitchfork today, it’s beautiful: J Mascis “Fade Into You”

Listen to the new Edward Sharpe Today!!

20130715-102529.jpg

Want to have a great day? Listen to the new self-titled Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeroes album today on NPR! I had the pleasure of hearing them play one of the new songs at their Red Rocks show, “Remember to Remember”, an all Jade torch song and it was an instant classic. I’ve been crazy waiting to hear the rest ever since, and my high expectations are completely met. They make such sweet, sweet music, and this album of salvation continues in that vein. It has a fuzzier tone, almost like it’s an old vinyl playing (although that might be the NPR music player). “Let’s Get High” is as celebratory as it gets, while “This Life” (currently listed on NPR as “Life Is Hard”, I imagine that will get fixed) starts sounding like a Jeff Buckley song, then brings a Motown mixed with tent revival sound that these guys do so well. “They Were Wrong” could sit right next to The Beatles “Octopus’s Garden” on an album, no problem. The Blank Tapes – Band to Watch

20130626-141528.jpg

If you are a fan of Foxygen or The Monkees then you will love this band. They have that throwback 60’s sound nailed, and it sounds like sunshine, perfect for summer. The Southern California mastermind behind it all, Matt Adams, is a garage 8-track junkie influenced by The Kinks, and oh does it show, and his songs are fantastic. California is really coming out with a lot of timeless California beach music lately, I’m loving it. They will be playing Hi Dive this Sunday, I see big things for them. I mean, look how cool they look:

Eleanor Friedberger of Fiery Furnaces New Album Stream

20130529-091249.jpg

Listen to Eleanor Friedberger‘s new album streaming free today at NPR. The sister half of artsy weird band Fiery Furnaces brings her distinct vocals and quirks to this new album. This is a smart album with great songs, interested to see her live solo, when I saw a Fiery Furnaces show, her and her brother bickered onstage. She’s pretty darn cool.

Stream the new Daft Punk on iTunes now!!!

20130513-115209.jpg photo by leslie loudspeaker

FINALLY it has arrived!! The new Daft Punk is killer, smooth perfect electronic that counters all the dubstep and in your face bass that has been so popular. This is the album of the summer, I’m in love with the song “Touch”, so funky and cool and just what you want. “Giorgio” has one of the funkiest beats ever and the whole thing just flows, I’m now on my third listen, can’t get enough! Apparently, others can’t either, that song alone has over 1,300,000 hits on youtube. This album used mostly real instruments, it’s so refreshing to hear. It’s good for every occasion, and you can listen to it NOW at iTunes!!! Go go go go go!

DADS sign to 6131 Records and tour dates announced!

Uploaded with Imgupr

New Jersey two-piece DADS just signed with 6131 Records, causing them to release a new EP and tour this summer! These guys have a wonderful sound, reminding me a little of Pinback vocally with great upbeat guitar licks and crashing percussion. They remind me of working in skate shops as a teen, something very free and earnest about them. Listen to their debut album here, American Radass

And check them out live! They’ll be in Denver July 8th at Circle Music Collective.

New JEFF the Brotherhood single off free Adult Swim album available May 6th

20130502-092336.jpg

I loooove JEFF the Brotherhood, from their adorable brotherly relationship, to their see through instruments (done well before the new Daft Punk video with clear instruments) to their fuzz filled sonic noisescapes they create. Cartoon Network Adult Swim has created a compilation of unreleased songs called Garage Swim, of which they have already put out a song by Thee Oh Sees. It will be free for everyone on May 6th at adultswim.com. Check out the JtB song right now as well as the track listing with songs by Black Lips, King Tuff, all the goods.

Personal tidbit- I’ve been in the Adult Swim offices. They have AstroTurf for a carpet and huge Space Ghost and Boba Fett costumes. Neat-o.

Cayucas US Dates and new single!!!

20130426-153307.jpg photo by leslie loudspeaker

One of my top favorites from SXSW, Cayucas have just announced their US tour dates, and they are playing everywhere! They have also released another single East Coast Girl which is every bit as catchy and beach ready as the others. I listened to this album during our past snowstorms in an effort to force summer, and today it’s sunny, so thank you, Cayucas! Can’t wait for the Denver show on June 22nd, I look forward to shooting the band with more than an iPhone.
